When Zeelo was contracted by COL Freemens, we analysed their current transport program in great details. Zeelo's transport expert observed that 33% of the school bus users were travelling from very far to use the school bus. The current routes were only reaching 70% of the school's new starters, and when analysing the pickup search data, we identified that several cities where parents interest was high were not served by the current route school bus network. On top of that, we identified 4 unpopular & unused stops that could be removed to make the routes more time-efficient.
We analysed the stop requests and pick-up stop search from our ticketing platform to identify new opportunities to optimise and grow the school bus service. We recommended 3 new stops to replace unpopular ones and increase catchment by 48 students. We suggested merging 2 routes saving £5720/month, whilst opening 2 new routes with an increased catchment of 166 students. Zeelo's leading technology platform also enabled COL Freemens to offer a wide range of booking options to parents and students, letting new families benefit from the school bus service.
Thanks to the changes to the routing, COL Freemens was able to give access to its school bus service to an additional 10% of students. The new ticketing options allowed the school to generate an extra £50k of revenue and reduce the school transport subsidy required to fund the transport service. Finally, merging 2 routes helped reduce the operational cost by £55k/year.
